Leonid Kharitonov has passed away

September 25 2017   30 Commented

My name is Mikhail Kharitonov and I’m the younger son of Leonid Mikhailovich. I have a very sad news for all the admirers of the famous Russian operatic singer. Leonid Mikhailovich Kharitonov has passed away on the 19th of September, 2017, after suffering his 5th heart attack. This happened the next day after his 84th birthday.

For that reason and in the memory of the artist, I would like to show you his favorite Russian romance song which he considered to be the main song of his life – “Shine, shine, my star!”. Farewell, dear father and a great singer!

From out of Siberia came a beautiful and deeply spiritual voice, that the world could not hear enough of. Leonid wowed his Scottish audience, filling the auditorium with his powerful voice, sans microphone. I think he is at his supreme spiritual best, singing that Volga boatsong. His heart was likely not the only price he paid for his talent. After his fifth heart attack, he went straight up, to go and sing for Heaven. He has lived on for his audience here, but now he is with St. Nicholas of Myra, filling all of Heaven with God’s Praises. Happy eternal hereafter to him, may we get to hear him there one day!

So sorry to hear of your father’s passing. He gave such beauty to the world of music and singing. Russia produces some of the greatest bass/baritone voices in the world, and his loss shall be felt among music lovers everywhere. His voice will not only live in the recordings for future generations to hear, but will also live in our hearts forever.

I am so sorry for your loss Mikhail, I loved your father’s voice so much, Leonid Kharitonov was always a goodwill embassador who showed the world his tremendous Artist’s heart.
I just found out today he passed away and I cannot stop crying. I lost my father too, so today it feels as though I lost another one.
My father spoke some Russian and bought the album, featuring your father’s wonderful powerful voice, as one of the fine soloists. I grew up listening to your father’s voice resonating in our house. I am grieved to learn of his passing.
    God bless you.

It was very sad to hear of the great Mr. Kharitonov’s passing. I will always remember him and Fyodor Shalyapin as the two most accomplished and expressive bass voices ever recorded. Leonid Kharitonov will be immortalised through his many, many, wonderful performances and recordings. до свидания Леонид!
