I don’t know if you would remember me from 3 years ago, but I messaged you on youtube once and Misha was so kind to forward my letter to you.

I came back upon your letter you wrote me from back then, and your words ring truer to me now than ever before. They renewed a strength in me I had forgotten I had. Thank you for lending me your strength. Your music, your voice, and your priceless advice.

Your words and your voice continue to inspire, for years and years after. We will never forget you Леонид Харитонов. You’ve touched all of our lives for the better. Across the oceans and continents, people you may never meet, they love you and what you stood for as a person. Not just a man standing for a country or an ideal, but one who stands for all of humanity. Standing, no. Singing! At the top of his lungs, sharing the deepest connection with us all, speaking in a language all people can understand. The language of music. Thank you for everything, and may you live long and happy.

I almost forgot, here is a copy of the letter you wrote me:

“I sang for 50 years and all those 50 years I was nervous and experienced that fear that you’re talking about. All those 50 years my knees and my hands were shaking. I used to change two or three shirts during my concerts since they were all wet with sweat as a result of my fears. So every concert was a challenge in more or less way. Of course, all my courage and strength that you can see on my videos weren’t real ones and didn’t reflect what I really felt inside. Only will power helped me to hide my fears and nervousness each time I stepped to a stage.

So train your will power and use your love for music. I know from my experience, that first 3-4 songs of your solo concert will always be difficult, but then your fears should go away while you’re more and more haunted with the beauty of music you’re performing. If your sound cuts out from being too nervous then I wouldn’t recommend to start your concert with songs that request strong attack of your vocal ligaments especially when taking high notes unless you’re sure that you’ll handle. Keep your legs stretched preventing your knees shaking but don’t strain them too much. But once again, train your will power and use your love for music as your support in it.

Having such fears is natural. And more than that, if you have such feelings and such nervousness then it tells me that you’re a real gifted artist and real music lover! Because you’re honestly trying to deliver what you have in your soul discovering something very personal and as a result you’re getting nervous. This is natural and good and this describes you as a real master. So keep struggling your fears and train your will power. And I wish you a lot of success in your difficult way to music and truly believe that you’ll achieve all your personal goals.

      Sincerely, Leonid Kharitonov.”

I hope your words will reach far beyond me to help many others. Thank you once again.

You have one of the best bass voices I have ever heard. Is so sad that for the so call “cold war”, here in the “New World”, we never had heard about you. At least for me, in Puerto Rico (The Caribbean). The first time I heard you was through an american cable TV channel call Classic Art Showcase. Specifically the “Song of the Volga Boatmen”. I love choirs, and your voice, with the former Soviet Army Choir was fantastic! Thank you for your talent, and God Bless you, your love ones, and your beloved Country.

    Monsieur Kharitonov,

    Spasiba; mille fois !

    Mr Haritonov,

I think the performance of the Russian Army Choir of the Volga Boatmen (1965), with you as the leading vocals, is the best ever.

I’ve always liked the tune but the sheer dominance of your voice is simply not from this world.

    Dear Mr. Kharitonov,

as a German man (33 years old) who loves the Russian culture and the traditional Russian music, I discovered your music as a piece of the Soviet Army Chorus via youtube and bought the cd’s.
I bow low to you and your fantastic voice and your incredibly superior presentation under the Boris Alexandrovich Alexandrov Ensemble of the Red Army.

Especially the pieces “The Cliff”, “Eyed Cossack Girl” (what a pretty cool show, unbelievable!), “Chrysanthemums finished blossoming long”, “The Ballad about Russian Boys”, and so on … I regret, that there is any more of it …
It makes me lucky to see and hear you. Your forcefully and emphatically style deeply moves my soul — how magical and how valuable this is!

So, your art command deep admiration from me.
I never will forget you, I’ll share your music and mind to my children!
Thank you so very much for this wonderful moments with your music for many days in this dark winter!!!
I wish you all the very best and I wish I could give you some life years of me.
In deepest admiration, my very best greetings,
    your
    Thomas E. of Germany
