    Hello
I am 14 and I discovered Mr Kharitonov’s music two years ago, and wow how amazing hive voice is. His voice seems to embody all of Russian culture, from its greats struggles to its vast steepe, and its human culture. His voice is phenomenal. He has inspired me to learn about Russia’s history, culture and I am now starting to learn the Russian language because of his renditions of these songs.
But may I ask would it be possible to add an English transliteration for the songs?
    Yours Sincerely
    Bradley

Hello, Bradley! Thank you for your comment. What songs do you mean? Because most of the songs have English Lyrics and English subtitles to the videos…

Ok what I was meaning was like this for Смуглянка

        Kak-to letom, na rassvete
        Zaglianul v sosedniy sad.
        Tam smuglianka-moldavanka
        Sobirayet vinograd…

So a literal translation into English. A transliteration verse a translation.
And on another note, who runs this site are you part of Mr Kharitonov’s direct family?

        Your Sincerely
        Bradley Pugh

          Dear, Bradley!

Let me inform you that 1) Leonid Kharitonov has never performed the song that you mentioned (Smyglyanka) in his life, so it’s a sort of off-topic. 2) The information about the administrators of this web site can be found on the “Contacts” page.

Ok sorry I don’t think I have been particularly clear. I was using Smuglianka as an example of a transliteration not a particular song that Mr Kharitonov sung. But never mind. Great music. Thanks for maintaining this site to inform us about this great musician!
            Yours Sincerely

Hi, I am 16 year old living in New Zealand. I sing in my school’s choir and was inspired to do so by the beautiful music of The Red Army Choir. It was the first CD I ever bought and I instantly fell in love with it. I think you are the greatest operatic bass the world will ever see Mr. Kharitonov. I wanted to thank you for the beautiful music you’ve made, my favorite being The Cliff 🙂

There is a version of The Cliff posted on You Tube by Ilamakin899, described as coming from the first CD of the Red Army Choir Definitive Collection. It is very similar to, but longer than, the original version posted on this the home website of the incomparable Leonid Mikhailovich Kharitonov. Could it possibly be the encore version of which the Maestro speaks in ‘Secrets of the Kremlin Concerts?’ He says there that he held the notes for longer. It is a magnificent song and of course a doubly magnificent performance from Maestro Kharitonov (I hope he does not mind being called Maestro Kharitonov…) surely only team Kharitonov will know whether this is the encore version. Is this the gem of artistic and historical significance that I suspect? Or was The Cliff recorded many times?

As far as we know there is only one known video recording of the Clif song and it’s in our VIDEO section. But it’d be interesting to see the YT link that you’re talking about.

I was born in the British governed Palestine in 1931 to amother who came here from Russia in 1907, and a father from Hungary, settling in 1024.
as a boyscout age 12 I was exposed to the revolusionary Russian songs which we sang in Hebrew.
in 1963 I attended the performance of the Alexandrov Red Atmy Choire in Paris
    and was deeply impressd.
On June 22nd I heard the present version of the Red Army Choire in Tel-Aviv.
    It was equally impressive.
one of the immortal songs is naturally the volga boatmen song.
After the live performance I discovered the wonderful Leonid Kharitonv
whom I now heard over and over many times.
He is in my view one of the greatest Bass-Baritone singers I ever listned to
including Chaliapin, Boris Christof and Paul Robson.
If Mr Kharitonov is reachable, pls let him know that he has a new admirer
in a country he has never been to.
    my best congratulations and wishes.

I discovered your father by “accident” on YouTube. I have fallen in love with his voice.

If I could die to the sound of Kharitonov chanting “Christos voskrese” in that remarkable way which only can be done by a Russian bass, then I would die happy and my soul could go anywhere and I would not care where.
